Brionne is a light blue, pinniped Pokémon with three ruffle-like growths around its body that alternate between white and pale blue, one just under its front flippers and another shortly before its tail. It has long segmented ears, a conical snout with a white tip, and front flippers far longer than its tail flippers. Brionne is a skillful dancer, typically learning choreography from members of its colony but also capable of learning from humans, working diligently to memorize each dance through imitation. It evolves from Popplio at level 17 and into Primarina at level 34, and it is part of the only first partner line with a piscine body.
Brionne appears to be based on a sea lion and on performers such as Japanese idols, ballerinas, and circus clowns, additionally referencing trained sea lions that performed in circuses. It may also draw inspiration from the Hawaiian monk seal, a species native to the Hawaiian Islands. Its name may combine brio, sea lion, brine, sissonne, a ballet step, and ondine, a type of female water nymph or mermaid. Its Japanese name, Osyamari, may mix oshare (fashionable) or oshama (a precocious young girl) with mari (ball) and marine.
Brionne's earliest card was a Sun & Moon Uncommon illustrated by Saya Tsuruta, followed by a Lost Thunder Uncommon illustrated by Atsuko Nishida. The Mega Evolution era's Pitch Black later added a Common illustrated by MINAMINAMI Take.
