Bergmite seems to be based on an iceberg or a stalagmite, perhaps the small tip of an iceberg that shows above the water. It seals cracks in its icy shell with cold air it makes itself, air that can drop to minus 100 degrees Celsius and freeze foes, and for all its bulk it can swim. Herds of Bergmite live on snowy peaks, and some ride on an Avalugg's back, frozen fast so they can be moved to new ground.
In Hisui, Bergmite can instead evolve into the regional Hisuian Avalugg. As of Generation VIII, Bergmite and Avalugg are the only Pokémon in both the Monster and Mineral Egg Groups.
Five Bergmite greeted challengers at the Snowbelle Gym under Wulfric's ownership, and one of them battled Ash's Pikachu during his rematch with the Gym Leader. A separate wild Bergmite later attacked a snow-covered Fuecoco after mistaking it for a Frigibax.
Bergmite first reached English cards in Flashfire with art by 5ban Graphics, and later appeared through Steam Siege, Forbidden Light, Evolving Skies and Astral Radiance before returning in Chaos Rising during the Mega Evolution era. Midori Harada drew its Steam Siege card, Miki Tanaka its Forbidden Light card, kirisAki and Kouki Saitou its two Sword & Shield era cards, and Anesaki Dynamic its Chaos Rising card.
