Azumarill debuted in Pokémon Gold and Silver as Marill's evolution, reached at level 18. Generation III added a baby stage, Azurill, which evolves into Marill with high friendship, and Generation VI added the Fairy type to Marill and Azumarill, giving them their current Water and Fairy typing.
Its signature ability is Huge Power, which doubles its Attack stat and lets a Pokémon with modest base stats hit very hard. Its other standard ability, Thick Fat, halves damage from Fire and Ice moves, and its hidden ability, Sap Sipper, makes it immune to Grass-type moves and raises its Attack when one hits it.
Azumarill's first English card was Neo Genesis #2 (December 2000), a holo rare illustrated by Ken Sugimori. Neo Destiny (2002) followed with Light Azumarill, another holo. Light Pokémon, introduced in that set as the counterpart to Dark Pokémon, are always evolved Pokémon shown as the result of being raised with care. Aquapolis (2003) printed a Kagemaru Himeno Azumarill in both a regular Rare and a holo in its H-numbered subset.
Delta Species (2005) printed two Azumarill cards: Azumarill δ, a Water and Metal Delta Species card by Atsuko Nishida, and a separate Azumarill numbered 114 in a 113-card set, the set's secret rare, again drawn by Himeno. Himeno drew more Azumarill cards than any other artist.
From Diamond & Pearl onward Azumarill has been a regular presence, including a holo rare in HeartGold SoulSilver (2010), two different Rares in Primal Clash (2015) and cards in Lost Thunder, Fusion Strike, Paldea Evolved, Temporal Forces, Stellar Crown and Surging Sparks. Its first ex card is Azumarill ex, a Double Rare by 5ban Graphics in the Mega Evolution era set Ascended Heroes (2026).
