Ariados evolves from Spinarak at level 22 and makes its nest deep in temperate and tropical forests, only leaving after dark to hunt. It never rests in a fixed spot while hunting, instead trailing a single thread from its rear back to its nest. It has four yellow legs with purple bands plus a second pair of leg-like structures on its back, and its feet are tipped with hooks that let it climb ceilings and walls.
Its sprite is notably identical between the Gold and Silver versions, one of the few Pokémon to share that trait, and it can produce thread from both its spinneret and its mouth.
Ariados debuted under the ownership of a character named Tokichi in Ariados, Amigos, helping wrap up Team Rocket in its web. Oakley's Ariados is her main Pokémon in Pokémon Heroes: Latios & Latias, and J used hers starting in Mutiny in the Bounty! to tie up her victims while stealing their Pokémon, including tying up Ash and his friends in Pillars of Friendship!. Groups of wild Ariados attacked Dawn and Piplup in Following A Maiden's Voyage! and again in Stopped in the Name of Love!, and both times Piplup's Bide sent them flying.
Ariados debuted in Neo Genesis as an Uncommon by Ken Sugimori, and Neo Destiny followed with a Dark Ariados illustrated by Toshinao Aoki. The line has continued through modern sets, including a Trainer Gallery card in Brilliant Stars illustrated by Shiburingaru and a Holo Rare in Silver Tempest by Tika Matsuno.

Ranked by each card’s main print in near-mint raw condition. 1st Edition, Shadowless and other versions are priced on each card’s page. The table updates live.
The leaders among the most valuable Ariados cards come from several eras, but the single top card is the Holo Rare from Aquapolis in 2003. All 18 Ariados cards carry a market value, and the ten leading cards hold 99 percent of the total value, so Ariados card value sits almost entirely in the top of the list. The priced cards run from 2000 to 2026, which gives the species a span of more than twenty years.
The Aquapolis Holo Rare from 2003 leads Ariados card value by 4.2 times over the next card, the Unseen Forces Holo Rare from 2005. The Aquapolis Rare from 2003 comes 3rd, followed by Dark Ariados, a Rare from Neo Destiny in 2002. A holo is a card with a foil-patterned artwork box, and the Holo Rare print is the most common type among these leading Ariados cards.
Of the twenty-five leading Ariados cards, 5 come from Sword & Shield, 4 from WOTC, 2 from EX and 2 from Sun & Moon. The newest era's leader is the Mega Evolution Ariados from Perfect Order in 2026, which sits 16th overall. Vintage here means the WOTC era, and modern is every later era. The top ten holds 4 vintage and 6 modern cards, while the top twenty-five holds 4 vintage and 14 modern.
Among the ten leading most valuable Ariados cards, 4 are Holo Rare, 4 are Rare and 2 are Uncommon. Widening to the top twenty-five, the count is 7 Uncommon, 5 Holo Rare, 5 Rare and 1 Common. Ariados cards at the top are therefore a mix of holo and non-holo prints, with Uncommon the largest single rarity in the wider group.
Ariados ranks 274th of 1020 species with priced cards by the value of its single leading card, and 301st of 753 by the combined value of its ten leaders. Its one evolution line member, Spinarak, ranks 663rd of 1020 by top card. The Ariados card market is built on a handful of top cards, with Ariados sitting well above its pre-evolution.
