Memory Berry lets its holder use an attack borrowed from an earlier stage of its own evolution line, still paying that attack's Energy cost. The Aquapolis wording allowed borrowing from any Basic Pokémon card or any Evolution card the Pokémon evolved from, and discarded the card at the end of any turn the Pokémon attacked; the Crystal Guardians wording narrowed the source to the Basic Pokémon or Stage 1 Evolution card specifically, and the Platinum wording went further by removing the discard-on-attack requirement entirely.
The card debuted in the WOTC era's Aquapolis with art by Shin-ichi Yoshikawa, then returned in the EX era's Crystal Guardians with new art by Shizurow. It was reprinted again in the Diamond and Pearl era's Platinum, also by Shizurow, with the updated wording. Our catalog lists 3 printings.
Memory Berry lends its name to a memory-matching minigame played with Basic Energy cards, described in the Alternative Play Handbook. The card may be based on the Physalis plant.
The Aquapolis printing is Memory Berry's first release
The Crystal Guardians printing narrowed the wording to Basic or Stage 1 Evolution attacks
The Platinum printing removed the discard-on-attack requirement
Only under the Aquapolis and Crystal Guardians wordings; the Platinum wording removed that requirement.
It may be based on Physalis; a matching game in the Alternative Play Handbook is named after the card, not the other way round.
