Leon entered the Gym Challenge at age 10 with his partner Charizard, won the Champion Cup on his first attempt, and has stayed unbeaten in League and exhibition matches ever since. He is Hop's older brother and the one who hands the player their first partner Pokémon in Postwick. His one famous weakness is getting lost.
His ace is a Charizard capable of Gigantamax, the last Pokémon he sends out in the final battle for the title. After the player takes that title, Leon succeeds Rose as chairman of the Galar League and turns Rose Tower into the Battle Tower.
His Supporter card, Leon, first appeared in Vivid Voltage (2020) as a Holo Rare illustrated by Ken Sugimori, plus an Ultra Rare and a Secret Rare illustrated by Hideki Ishikawa. Crown Zenith (2023) brought the Supporter back as a Holo Rare with new artwork by Naoki Saito.
Ken Sugimori, Hideki Ishikawa and Naoki Saito split Leon's four printings between them. Both of his regular printings, in Vivid Voltage and Crown Zenith, carry Holo Rare rarity rather than the Uncommon that Gym Leader Supporters such as Allister, Opal and Gordie received.
The original Holo Rare printing, illustrated by Ken Sugimori.
The Secret Rare version from the same set, illustrated by Hideki Ishikawa.
A 2023 Holo Rare reprint with separate artwork by Naoki Saito.
He is the Champion of the Galar Pokémon League in Pokémon Sword and Shield, unbeaten in League and exhibition matches until the player defeats him.
A Charizard capable of Gigantamax, the last Pokémon in his lineup.
Our catalog lists 4 Leon printings across 2 sets: three rarities in Vivid Voltage (2020) and a new version in Crown Zenith (2023).
