Weedle is a dual Bug and Poison type, 0.3 meters tall and 3.2 kilograms. Its standard ability, Shield Dust, blocks the added effects of moves that hit it, and its hidden ability, Run Away, guarantees an escape from wild battles. Weedle evolves into Kakuna at level 7 and Kakuna into Beedrill at level 10, which ties it with the Caterpie line as one of the quickest three stage families to finish evolving.
Weedle's first card is Base Set #69 (1999), illustrated by Mitsuhiro Arita, and Base Set 2 and Legendary Collection both reprinted that Arita artwork. Gym Challenge (2000) printed Koga's Weedle, tying it to the Fuchsia City Gym Leader, with art by Ken Sugimori. Skyridge (2003) printed two different Weedle cards in the same set, and the line has continued in almost every era since, including a Chaos Rising printing in 2026.
Of the 26 Weedle printings in our catalog, 24 are Common and the other two, from the Kalos Starter Set and McDonald's Collection 2014, carry no printed rarity. None sits above Common, so Weedle's collectible versions are first edition Base Set copies, reverse holos and promotional releases rather than premium rarities.
Mitsuhiro Arita is credited on five Weedle cards, more than any other artist, and Akira Komayama drew both of the XY era promotional prints. By era, the Wizards of the Coast period accounts for seven Weedle printings, the XY era for five, and Weedle has appeared in ten TCG eras in all.
Weedle's appeal is continuity rather than rarity. As a Base Set common, it is part of every complete Base Set, and its long run of Commons makes it a natural target for collectors who chase a single species across every era.
