Tapu Bulu

Tapu Bulu in the anime

Tapu Bulu debuted in A Dream Encounter!, sensing the birth of a Cosmog nicknamed Nebby alongside the other guardian deities, before making its first solo appearance in Some Kind of Laziness!, battling Ash's Lycanroc, and appearing many more times through Pokémon the Series: Sun & Moon.

Tapu Bulu's origins and cards

Tapu Bulu, with and without its shell closed, appears to be based on a bull and resembles a tiki statue, possibly drawing on Lono, one of the four major Hawaiian gods associated with agriculture and peace; its lazy Pokédex entry may allude to work being forbidden during festivals dedicated to Lono. Burning Shadows gave Tapu Bulu GX an Ultra Rare and a Secret Rare, both by 5ban Graphics, and an SM Black Star promo GX also exists. Lost Thunder added a Rare by Satoshi Shirai, Hidden Fates' Shiny Vault a Secret Rare, Battle Styles a Holo Rare, and the Scarlet & Violet era's Shrouded Fable paired a Rare with an Illustration rare by IKEDA Saki.
