Spectrier is an equine Pokémon with black fur, a purple facial marking extending to the base of its ears, a closed left eye with thick mauve eyelashes, and a wavy purple mane that fades to translucent mauve tips. Its fringe and tail are entirely mauve, its legs carry a purple sock pattern, and its purple hooves are detached from its legs at the pastern, with the rear pair trailed by spectral mist. It desires isolation and silence, is most active at night, and has weak eyesight due to its nocturnal habits, though its other senses are keenly sharpened, giving it an accurate sense of terrain and nearby living things. Spectrier does not evolve, and it is the only pure Ghost-type Pokémon with no evolutionary relative.
Spectrier's Attack and Special Attack stats are the reverse of Glastrier's, and along with Glastrier it was one of only two Pokémon introduced in the Crown Tundra that were not directly revealed to the public.
Spectrier, together with Glastrier, may be based on the Horsehead Nebula near the constellation Orion, with Calyrex possibly standing for Orion (specifically its brightest star, Rigel) or for Lepus, the hare constellation below it. Its relationship with Calyrex may also draw on the Irish legend of Brian Boru and the Pooka.
Spectrier's first English card was a 2022 Lost Origin Holo Rare illustrated by Narumi Sato. The Mega Evolution era's Ascended Heroes later added a Rare illustrated by Taiga Kasai.
