Simisear evolves from Pansear when exposed to a Fire Stone. It shares its category, the Ember Pokémon, with Fletchinder, and in Japanese also shares its category name with Charcadet. Simisear and Pansear are the only Pokémon outside the first partners that can have Blaze. Simisear finished last in a Japanese fan poll picking a distribution for Volcanion and the Mechanical Marvel screenings, and was then handed out at Pokémon Centers and Pokémon Stores to mark the loss. Sweet food keeps its inner flame going, and when it gets excited its body heats up and embers drift from its head and tail.
Simisear appeared in Emolga and the New Volt Switch!, knocked from a tree by a group of Watchog protecting an apple tree, and it took its anger out on Emolga, Axew, and Oshawott before calming down after Emolga and Snivy saved it from a falling boulder.
Simisear is thought to represent the hear no evil pose of the three wise monkeys motif, its large ears fitting that role among its two contemporaries, with its midsection pattern and cloud-like shoulder ruffs also suggesting an active volcano. Its first card is the 2011 Black & White Uncommon illustrated by Shin Nagasawa, followed that year by an Emerging Powers Rare from Mitsuhiro Arita. Brilliant Stars and Crown Zenith later gave the line a Simisear V and VSTAR pair, with Crown Zenith's Galarian Gallery adding an Ultra Rare VSTAR illustrated by nagano.
