Shellos has two separate forms, West Sea and East Sea, which differ only in appearance: the West Sea form has a pink mantle with spike-like protrusions and a ring of fleshy knobs resembling nudibranch gills, while the East Sea form has a turquoise mantle and green underside. Shellos and Gastrodon were originally intended for Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire before appearing in Diamond and Pearl, and it evolves into Gastrodon at level 30.
Shellos's English Pokédex entry for Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver has the fewest words of any Pokédex entry in the core series, at just nine words, an entry later carried over into Pokémon Y and Alpha Sapphire. Shellos and its evolution were accidentally released early in Pokémon GO before their official debut.
Shellos's first cards were East Sea and West Sea Commons in Secret Wonders illustrated by Ken Sugimori, followed by an East Sea Common in Majestic Dawn and both forms again in Rising Rivals. Later Commons appeared in Steam Siege, Crimson Invasion, Lost Origin, and Surging Sparks.

Value across Shellos cards is spread unevenly at the top, with the leader ahead of the runner-up by 1.8 times. The most valuable Shellos card is the Shellos East Sea from Rising Rivals, printed in 2009. All 9 of the 9 Shellos cards carry a market value, and they span the years 2007 to 2024, so the full Shellos card value picture is easy to survey.
The Shellos East Sea from Rising Rivals (2009) leads Shellos card value by 1.8 times over the next card, the Shellos West Sea from Secret Wonders (2007). Third is the Shellos West Sea from Rising Rivals (2009), followed by the Shellos East Sea from Secret Wonders (2007). Each of these is printed as a Common, so the most valuable Shellos cards are standard base-rarity prints rather than holos or special illustration rares.
The Diamond & Pearl era supplies 5 of the Shellos cards, taking the first five places, with one each from XY, Sun & Moon, Sword & Shield and Scarlet & Violet. The newest era's leader is the Shellos from Surging Sparks (2024), ranked 9th overall. Vintage here means the WOTC era, and modern is every later era: all 9 cards in both the top ten and the top twenty-five are modern.
Among the 1020 species with priced cards, Shellos ranks 953rd by the value of its single leading card, so its best card sits low in that field. Its only evolution line member, Gastrodon, ranks 552nd of 1020 by the same measure, well above it. Shellos cards are a small, all-Common market, with the earliest Diamond & Pearl printings ahead of the later ones.
