Shedinja is a special case Evolution: when Nincada levels up into Ninjask at level 20, Shedinja can simultaneously appear inside a spare Poke Ball if the player has an open party slot. In Generation III no extra ball was needed, but from Generation IV onward a basic Poke Ball is consumed from the bag to produce it. Its body is entirely hollow, with no internal organs, and its only ability is Wonder Guard.
No other Pokémon shares its Bug/Ghost typing, and it holds the lowest base stat total of any fully evolved Bug type and of any Ghost type.
Shedinja debuted under the ownership of Colonel Hansen in The Princess and the Togepi as his main battler, later reappearing in A Togepi Mirage! where Misty's Gyarados defeated it with Flamethrower. In The Spectral Express!, a wild Ninjask left behind a Shedinja that entered one of Goh's empty Poke Balls, becoming his.
Shedinja's first card came in the EX era's Dragon set as a Holo Rare illustrated by Kagemaru Himeno, followed by a Deoxys Rare from Yukiko Baba. The Diamond and Pearl era brought Rares from Kouki Saitou and Mitsuhiro Arita, and the design kept returning at Rare across the Black and White, XY, Sun and Moon, and Sword and Shield eras. The Mega Evolution era's 2025 set paired an Uncommon from IKEDA Saki with an Illustration rare from Tetsu Kayama.
