Scizor was introduced in Pokémon Gold and Silver as one of Generation II's held-item trade evolutions: a Scyther traded while holding a Metal Coat becomes Scizor, swapping Scyther's Flying type for Steel. Its regular abilities are Swarm and Technician, and its hidden ability, Light Metal, halves its weight.
Pokémon X and Y gave it a Mega Evolution, Mega Scizor, which keeps the Bug and Steel typing. Pokémon Legends: Arceus later opened a second branch for Scyther, which evolves into Kleavor with a Black Augurite instead of a trade.
Scizor reached English cards in 2001: Neo Discovery printed it as a holo and a non-holo rare by Kimiya Masago, and a Hironobu Yoshida Scizor went out as a Pokémon League promo (Wizards Black Star Promo #33) the same month. Neo Destiny (2002) added Dark Scizor by Mitsuhiro Arita, and the EX era brought Rocket's Scizor ex in Team Rocket Returns (2004) and Scizor ex in Unseen Forces (2005). Platinum-era Rising Rivals printed Scizor E4, an Elite Four's Pokémon card, and HeartGold SoulSilver's Undaunted gave it a Prime rare.
BREAKpoint (2016) introduced Scizor EX and M Scizor EX for its Mega form. Celestial Storm (2018) printed Scizor GX, including a secret rare, and Hidden Fates put a shiny Scizor-GX in its Shiny Vault. Darkness Ablaze (2020) followed with Scizor V and Scizor VMAX, again with a secret rare. In Scarlet & Violet, Obsidian Flames (2023) gave it an illustration rare by Oku, Paldean Fates a shiny card, and Temporal Forces (2024) Scizor ex. 5ban Graphics has by far the most Scizor credits in our catalog (8).
Scizor's cards trace the game's special mechanics one after another: Dark Pokémon, Team Rocket's ex, Elite Four SP, Prime, Mega EX, GX, VMAX and ex. A Scizor run is a compact tour of those eras through a single Pokémon, with shiny and illustration rare cards in between.
The holo from Scizor's first expansion, illustrated by Kimiya Masago in 2001.
Neo Destiny's Dark Pokémon version of Scizor, illustrated by Mitsuhiro Arita.
An EX-era ex card under the Team Rocket name, illustrated by Hikaru Koike.
Scizor-GX in its shiny coloring, from the Hidden Fates Shiny Vault subset.
The secret rare version of Scizor VMAX, illustrated by 5ban Graphics.
An illustration rare from 2023, illustrated by Oku.
Scizor's first English cards arrived in 2001: two rares in Neo Discovery, illustrated by Kimiya Masago, and a Pokémon League promo by Hironobu Yoshida released the same month.
Our catalog lists 35 Scizor printings across 22 sets as of 2026-09-26.
Trade Scyther while it holds a Metal Coat.
Yes. Pokémon Legends: Arceus introduced Kleavor, which Scyther becomes with a Black Augurite instead of a trade.

Scizor cards span the years 1999 to 2024, and the most valuable Scizor card is Rocket's Scizor ex, a Rare from Team Rocket Returns in 2004. All 35 of the Scizor cards carry a market value, and the ten leading cards hold 84 percent of the total value, so Scizor card value rests on a short list of prints rather than being spread evenly across the species.
Rocket's Scizor ex from Team Rocket Returns (2004) leads Scizor card value by 3.2 times over the next card, the Holo Rare Scizor ex from Unseen Forces (2005). Third is the Holo Rare Scizor from Aquapolis (2003), followed by the Rare PRIME Scizor from Undaunted (2010). Fifth is the Holo Rare Dark Scizor from Neo Destiny (2002). A holo is a card whose art window carries a foil pattern.
Of the twenty-five most valuable Scizor cards, 7 come from the WOTC era, 4 from XY, 4 from Sun & Moon and 2 from EX. In the top ten the split is 4 vintage and 6 modern, and in the top twenty-five it is 7 vintage and 18 modern, where vintage means the WOTC era and modern is every later era. The newest era's leader is Scizor from Obsidian Flames (2023), 21st overall, the best showing for Scarlet & Violet among Scizor cards.
Among the ten leading Scizor cards, 5 are Holo Rare, 2 are Rare, and one each is Rare PRIME, Secret Rare and Shiny rare. Widening to the twenty-five leaders, Holo Rare and Ultra Rare each account for 6 cards, Rare for 5, Secret Rare and Shiny rare for 2 each, with one Illustration rare, one Rare PRIME and one Common (reverse holo). That reverse holo is the only print type listed in the top twenty-five.
By the value of its single leading card, Scizor ranks 56th of 1020 species with priced cards, and by the combined value of its ten leaders it ranks 68th of 753. Within its evolution line, Scyther ranks 95th of 1020 and Kleavor 752nd of 1020 by leading card. Scizor is the strongest card market of the three, with its value held in its own prints rather than spread across the line.
