Purugly is a Normal type that evolves from Glameow at level 38. It cinches its waist with its own forked tail to appear larger and more intimidating, using that trick and a ceaseless glare to frighten other Pokémon out of their nests so it can move in.
Mars's Purugly appeared in the anime's Double Team Turnover!, marking the species' debut, and returned in later episodes. In For The Love Of Meowth!, Mamie's Glameow evolved into Purugly after being hurt by James's Carnivine's Bullet Seed, and Meowth, who had been drawn to it as a Glameow, lost interest once its personality changed.
Purugly debuted in Diamond and Pearl in 2007 as a Rare illustrated by Masakazu Fukuda, with a Great Encounters Uncommon by Ken Sugimori and a Platinum Purugly G Common by Ryota Saito following soon after. Later illustrators include Kagemaru Himeno on BREAKpoint, Tomokazu Komiya on Unbroken Bonds, and Saboteri on a 2024 Stellar Crown Common.

Purugly cards span 2007 to 2024, and all 11 of them carry a market value. The most valuable Purugly card is the Rare from Diamond & Pearl, released in 2007, which sits ahead of a Rare from Unbroken Bonds in 2019. The ten leading cards hold 99 percent of the total value, so the Purugly card value picture is set almost entirely by those ten prints, with the 11th card adding very little.
The Diamond & Pearl Rare from 2007 leads Purugly card value by 3.1 times over the next card, the Unbroken Bonds Rare from 2019. Third is Purugly G, a Common from Platinum in 2009, followed by the Great Encounters Uncommon from 2008 and the Ultra Prism Uncommon from 2018. Behind the two Rares, the most valuable Purugly cards in this group are Common and Uncommon printings.
All ten of the leading Purugly cards are modern, where vintage means the WOTC era and modern is every later era. Across the twenty-five leading cards the count is 11 modern and none vintage, drawn from Diamond & Pearl with 3 cards, XY with 3, Sun & Moon with 2 and Sword & Shield with 2. The newest era's leader is the Stellar Crown card from 2024, in Scarlet & Violet, which places 11th overall among Purugly cards.
Among the ten leading Purugly cards, the printed rarities are 7 Uncommon, 2 Rare and 1 Common. Widening to the twenty-five leading cards gives 7 Uncommon, 2 Common and 2 Rare, so Uncommon is the printed rarity that appears most often in both groups. The most valuable Purugly cards are standard Rare, Uncommon and Common printings, and the two Rares in the ten leaders are the Diamond & Pearl card from 2007 and the Unbroken Bonds card from 2019.
By the value of its single leading card, Purugly ranks 906th of 1020 species with priced cards, and by the combined value of its ten leaders it ranks 730th of 753. Its evolution line has one other member, Glameow, whose leading card ranks 580th of 1020. Purugly cards form a small market, one where a pair of Rares from Diamond & Pearl and Unbroken Bonds sets the top of the range.
