Marowak evolves from Cubone at level 28 and keeps its abilities: Rock Head, which stops recoil damage, Lightning Rod, which draws Electric-type moves to it, and the hidden Battle Armor, which blocks critical hits. Marowak and Cubone are the only Pokémon that can learn Bone Club and Bonemerang, and the only ones that benefit from the Thick Club held item.
Pokémon Sun and Moon added Alolan Marowak, a Fire and Ghost type. Every Cubone that evolves at night in Alola takes this form, wherever it came from, and Alolan Marowak is the only Pokémon that can learn Shadow Bone. In Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon, a Totem Alolan Marowak guards Kiawe's trial at Wela Volcano Park (in Sun and Moon that trial's Totem is Salazzle).
Marowak's first English card was Jungle #39 (June 1999), an Uncommon illustrated by Mitsuhiro Arita. That art returned in Base Set 2, and Arita went on to draw Dark Marowak for Team Rocket Returns (2004) and the Alolan Marowak in Crimson Invasion, making him the artist with the most Marowak credits.
The EX era gave it its two variant cards. Dark Marowak in Team Rocket Returns is a Fighting and Darkness dual type, and Marowak δ in Delta Species (2005) is a Delta Species card typed Fighting and Metal rather than Marowak's usual Fighting. BREAKthrough (2015) printed a regular Marowak by match beside an Ultra Rare Marowak BREAK by 5ban Graphics.
Alolan Marowak's set cards began with Crimson Invasion (2017), drawn by Mitsuhiro Arita, and continued in Forbidden Light, Team Up and Unified Minds, while a Black Star Promo gave it its only GX card. The Kanto form kept a separate run in Unbroken Bonds, Battle Styles, Scarlet & Violet's 151 and Stellar Crown, and Journey Together (2025) printed Alolan Marowak again as an Uncommon.
Marowak's first English card, a 1999 Uncommon illustrated by Mitsuhiro Arita.
A Fighting and Darkness Dark Pokémon Rare from 2004, also drawn by Arita.
A 2005 Delta Species Rare that makes Marowak a Fighting and Metal type.
Marowak's BREAK Evolution card, an Ultra Rare from 2015's BREAKthrough.
The only Alolan Marowak GX, a Sun & Moon Black Star Promo illustrated by 5ban Graphics.
Marowak's first English card is Jungle #39, released in June 1999 and illustrated by Mitsuhiro Arita.
Cubone evolves into Marowak at level 28. In Alola, evolving at night produces the Fire and Ghost type Alolan Marowak instead.
Both. Alolan Marowak is a dual Fire and Ghost type, while regular Marowak is pure Ground.

Ranked by each card’s main print in near-mint raw condition. 1st Edition, Shadowless and other versions are priced on each card’s page. The table updates live.
The value of Marowak cards is packed tightly at the top: the ten leading cards hold 99 percent of the total, so the rest of the species adds almost nothing to the market. The most valuable Marowak card is Dark Marowak, a Holo Rare from Team Rocket Returns in 2004. All 22 Marowak cards carry a market value, and they span the years 1999 to 2025. Marowak card value is set almost entirely by a short list of prints.
Dark Marowak from Team Rocket Returns (2004) leads Marowak card value by 1.5 times over the next card, the Rare Marowak from FireRed & LeafGreen (2004). Third is Marowak δ, a Holo Rare from Delta Species (2005), and fourth is Alolan Marowak GX, a promo from SM Black Star Promos (2017). A holo is a card with a foil-patterned art window, and two of these three leaders are printed that way. Fifth is the Uncommon Marowak from Aquapolis (2003).
The most valuable Marowak cards come from many eras. Of the twenty-five leading cards, Sun & Moon accounts for 6, while WOTC, EX, XY and Scarlet & Violet account for 3 each. Vintage here means the WOTC era, and modern is every later era. Three of the top ten are vintage and seven are modern, and in the top twenty-five the split is 3 vintage to 19 modern. The newest era's leader is Marowak from 151 (2023), which sits 19th overall.
Among the ten leading Marowak cards, the printed rarities are 3 Rare, 3 Uncommon, 2 Holo Rare, 1 Promo and 1 Ultra Rare. Widening to the twenty-five leaders gives 9 Rare, 7 Uncommon, 4 Holo Rare, 1 Promo and 1 Ultra Rare. Plain Rare and Uncommon prints outnumber everything else in both groups, and the holo count stays small. The single Ultra Rare in the top ten is Marowak BREAK from BREAKthrough (2015).
Marowak ranks 135th of 1020 species with priced cards by the value of its single leading card, and 147th of 753 by the combined value of its ten leaders. Its one evolution line member, Cubone, ranks 289th of 1020 by top card. Marowak therefore sits in the upper-middle of the field, with a market carried by a short list of prints that outranks its own pre-evolution.
