Kangaskhan does not evolve. It stands 2.2 meters tall and weighs 80 kilograms, and every Kangaskhan is female, which fits the design: a mother carrying a young one in her belly pouch, the source of its Parent Pokémon category. Its regular abilities are Early Bird, which shortens how long it stays asleep, and Scrappy, which lets its Normal and Fighting moves hit Ghost types; its hidden ability, Inner Focus, keeps it from flinching.
Pokémon X and Y gave Kangaskhan a Mega Evolution that keeps its Normal typing. Mega Kangaskhan is the only Pokémon with the ability Parental Bond, which has the young one join in so that its attacks strike twice. The card game followed in 2014, when Flashfire printed M Kangaskhan EX as an Ultra Rare and a Secret Rare, both by 5ban Graphics, and the 2025 Mega Evolution set brought it back as Mega Kangaskhan ex in a Double rare and a special illustration rare.
In the original series episode "The Kangaskhan Kid," Ash, Misty and Brock meet Tommy, a boy who fell from his parents' helicopter as a toddler and grew up with a herd of wild Kangaskhan in a Pokémon preservation area, riding in the pouch of the largest one.
Kangaskhan's first cards come from Jungle in June 1999: a holo (#5) and a non-holo (#21), both illustrated by Mitsuhiro Arita. Gym Heroes added Blaine's Kangaskhan, an Uncommon by Ken Sugimori, and the following years kept it in print through Aquapolis (Toshinao Aoki) and FireRed & LeafGreen (Naoyo Kimura). Flashfire paired a Kangaskhan EX by Ryo Ueda with the M Kangaskhan EX cards. Destined Rivals (2025) gave the standard form an Illustration rare by Mékayu, and GOTO minori drew the Mega Evolution set's special illustration rare of Mega Kangaskhan ex.
Kangaskhan has turned up in every card era since Jungle without often being the headline. Its Mega Evolution supplies the chase cards: the Flashfire M Kangaskhan EX Secret Rare and the Mega Evolution special illustration rare, with the Jungle holo as the vintage anchor.
