Houndoom is a Dark and Fire type introduced in Pokémon Gold and Silver, the games that added the Dark type. It evolves from Houndour at level 24, stands 1.4 meters tall and weighs 35.0 kilograms, and its Pokédex category is the Dark Pokémon. Pokémon X and Y gave it Mega Houndoom, which keeps the same typing.
Its standard abilities are Early Bird, which wakes it from sleep sooner, and Flash Fire, which powers up its Fire-type moves after it is hit by one; its hidden ability, Unnerve, stops opponents from eating their held Berries.
Houndoom's first card is Neo Discovery #4 (2001), a holo rare illustrated by Shin-ichi Yoshida, and Neo Revelation added a second holo by Mitsuhiro Arita later that year. Neo Destiny (2002) printed Dark Houndoom, one of the set's Dark Pokémon, the Team Rocket-linked variants that Neo Destiny paired with gentler Light Pokémon. Skyridge (2003) printed a Houndoom as both a regular rare and a holo, and Team Magma vs Team Aqua (2004) gave it a holo as Team Magma's Houndoom.
Undaunted (2010) printed a Houndoom Pokémon Prime, the HeartGold & SoulSilver era's holofoil-bordered variant. BREAKthrough (2015) brought Houndoom-EX and M Houndoom-EX, Darkness Ablaze (2020) Houndoom V, and Battle Styles (2021) a Single Strike Houndoom with a Secret Rare version. The Scarlet & Violet era printed Houndoom ex in Obsidian Flames (2023), an Illustration rare in Shrouded Fable (2024), and Team Rocket's Houndoom in Destined Rivals (2025) as both an Uncommon and an Illustration rare.
Kagemaru Himeno has the most Houndoom credits in our catalog (3). The Scarlet & Violet and Wizards of the Coast eras are tied for the most Houndoom cards, nine each.
Houndoom's card history keeps returning to the games' villain teams: Dark Houndoom in Neo Destiny and again in Team Rocket Returns (2004), Team Magma's Houndoom, and Team Rocket's Houndoom in Destined Rivals. Alongside those sit its Mega EX, V and ex cards and two Illustration rares from the Scarlet & Violet era.

Ranked by each card’s main print in near-mint raw condition. 1st Edition, Shadowless and other versions are priced on each card’s page. The table updates live.
The value of Houndoom cards is concentrated at the top: the ten leading cards hold 89 percent of the total, so a short list of prints sets the market for the species. The most valuable Houndoom card is the Holo Rare from Aquapolis in 2003. All 45 Houndoom cards carry a market value, spanning releases from 2001 to 2025. Houndoom card value starts with that Aquapolis card and runs through several other WOTC-era sets.
The Aquapolis Holo Rare from 2003 leads Houndoom card value by 1.6 times over the next card, the Skyridge Holo Rare from the same year. Third is the Neo Revelation Holo Rare from 2001, a holo being a card with a foil-finished artwork window. Fourth is the Rare PRIME from Undaunted in 2010, and fifth is Dark Houndoom, a Holo Rare from Neo Destiny in 2002. Four of those five are WOTC-era prints.
The most valuable Houndoom cards lean vintage at the top: seven of the ten leaders come from the WOTC era, and vintage here means the WOTC era, with modern covering every later era. Widen to the twenty-five leaders and modern cards take 16 places to vintage's 9. WOTC supplies 9 of those twenty-five, EX 5, HeartGold & SoulSilver 3 and XY 3. The newest era's leader is the Houndoom from Shrouded Fable in 2024, which sits 12th overall in the Scarlet & Violet era.
Among the ten leading Houndoom cards, seven are Holo Rare, two are Rare and one is Rare PRIME. Across the leading twenty-five, Holo Rare still leads with 10 cards, followed by 5 Rare, 3 Ultra Rare, 2 Illustration rare, 2 Uncommon, 1 Promo, 1 Rare PRIME and 1 Secret Rare. The ten leaders are all printed rarities of the older kind, while the wider list shows Ultra Rare, Illustration rare and Secret Rare cards from later releases.
Houndoom ranks 24th of 1020 species with priced cards by the value of its single leading card, and 23rd of 753 by the combined value of its ten leaders. The one evolution line member listed is Houndour, whose top card ranks 235th of 1020. That places Houndoom's card market well above its pre-evolution, and the 89 percent held by the top ten makes it a market built on a small group of leading cards rather than on depth across the species.
