Ditto is a Normal type from Generation I that does not evolve. Its move Transform copies the opponent's appearance, types, stats other than HP, and moves, and its hidden ability, Imposter, which no other Pokémon can have, transforms it automatically as it enters battle. Its standard ability, Limber, prevents paralysis.
Ditto matters most outside battle. It can breed with any Pokémon except other Ditto and those in the No Eggs Discovered group, including some genderless Pokémon, and the Egg always hatches as the partner's species. Ditto and Manaphy are the only Pokémon that can breed but cannot themselves be obtained by breeding. Ditto is also the only Pokémon with a catch rate of 35.
Duplica, a performer who stages impressions with her Pokémon, debuted with her Ditto in the original series episode Ditto's Mysterious Mansion; at first her Ditto could copy any shape but not change its own face. Later, Drake of the Orange Crew used a Ditto in his full battle against Ash at Pummelo Stadium, where it lost to Pikachu.
Ditto's first card is a 1999 Fossil holo illustrated by Keiji Kinebuchi, and Gym Challenge (2000) added Koga's Ditto by Ken Sugimori. Our catalog lists 31 Ditto printings across 19 sets, with the EX era contributing 12.
Most of those EX cards come from Delta Species (2005), which printed ten Ditto by Yuka Morii in different Energy types. Each carries a Poké-Power, Duplicate, that swaps it for another Ditto from the deck. Lost Thunder (2018) printed Ditto ◇, a Prism Star card, and Shining Fates (2021) introduced Ditto V and Ditto VMAX, both also printed as shiny rares in its Shiny Vault. Paldean Fates (2024) added a shiny rare Ditto illustrated by 0313.
