Clefable is the last stage of the Cleffa line: Cleffa evolves into Clefairy with high friendship, and Clefairy becomes Clefable when exposed to a Moon Stone. It was a pure Normal type for its first five generations; Pokémon X and Y (2013) introduced the Fairy type and moved Cleffa, Clefairy and Clefable into it. Its abilities are Cute Charm and Magic Guard, which means it only takes damage from direct attacks, and its hidden ability is Unaware. It stands 1.3 meters tall and weighs 40 kilograms.
Pokémon Legends: Z-A introduced Mega Clefable, reached with the Clefablite. It becomes a Fairy and Flying type with large butterfly-like wings, though it floats by bending gravity with moonlight rather than flying on them. In that game, Jacinthe's partner is a Clefable that Mega Evolves at the first opportunity.
The species debuted in the original series episode Clefairy and the Moon Stone, when fragments of a giant Moon Stone evolve some of the Clefairy that had just sent Team Rocket flying. In Sun and Moon, Lusamine's Clefable debuts physically in Faba's Revenge! and becomes a regular as the caretaker of the Ultra Guardians base.
Clefable's first cards are in Jungle (1999): a holo (#1) and a non-holo (#17), both by Mitsuhiro Arita, and Base Set 2 reprinted the holo. Gym Heroes (2000) added Erika's Clefable, a holo by Atsuko Nishida, and Expedition (2002) printed another holo and non-holo pair by Kagemaru Himeno. FireRed & LeafGreen (2004) gave it Clefable ex, again by Arita.
Its modern ex cards are Clefable ex in Obsidian Flames (2023) and Mega Clefable ex in Perfect Order (2026), which comes as a Double Rare (#031), an Ultra Rare (#103) and a special illustration rare (#119) by Cona Nitanda. Our catalog lists 32 Clefable cards across 27 sets, six of them from the Wizards of the Coast era.
