Clauncher evolves into Clawitzer at level 37. Its oversized right claw gives it poor balance and makes swimming straight difficult, so it instead moves by firing compressed water.
In A Fated Face-Off, Ash and Misty both hooked the same wild Clauncher while fishing and battled one-on-one to decide who would catch it, with Misty winning. Clauncher's anime debut was in Going for the Gold under Rodman, who had caught it to entertain guests at the Ambrette Aquarium before it became lazy and unfriendly, later improving after helping save Clemont's Dedenne from Team Rocket.
Clauncher's first card appeared in the Kalos Starter Set, illustrated by 5ban Graphics, who also illustrated its later Furious Fists printing. Steam Siege and Forbidden Light continued the line, and Fusion Strike and Scarlet & Violet followed, the latter adding both a Common by miki kudo and an illustration rare by Shinya Komatsu, before the Mega Evolution set added a further Common by Tomokazu Komiya.
