Carkol resembles a minecart, with a small heap of coal on its back held together by tar so it never falls apart completely, even at speeds over 18 mph. It can breathe flames hotter than 1,800 degrees Fahrenheit, and its body temperature rises when it feels strong emotions. Carkol and its relatives are the only known Pokémon that can have Steam Engine as an Ability, and Carkol and Coalossal are the only Fire/Rock dual types that list Rock first.
A Carkol first appeared in The Pendant That Starts It All (Part Two), living aboard the Brave Olivine, where it is often seen helping power the ship by running in a wheel in the engine room.
Carkol's earliest printing is an Uncommon in Rebel Clash illustrated by Mitsuhiro Arita, followed by a Shiny rare in the Shining Fates Shiny Vault. Battle Styles, Temporal Forces, and the Mega Evolution era's Ascended Heroes have each added a new printing since.
