Bastiodon evolves from Shieldon at level 30. Its design mixes a horned dinosaur such as Chasmosaurus with a bulldozer, and its broad, flat face is built like a fortress wall. It is the defensive counterpart to Rampardos: the immovable shield to Rampardos's unstoppable spear.
Bastiodon debuted in Ancient Family Matters! under the ownership of Byron, used against Roark's Rampardos before Team Rocket interrupted the battle. In Dealing With Defensive Types!, Byron's Bastiodon defeated Ash's Chimchar in a Gym battle before losing to Gliscor.
Bastiodon's first mainline card came in Mysterious Treasures as a Rare illustrated by Kazuyuki Kano, followed by a POP Series 6 card by the same illustrator and Platinum. Rising Rivals added a Holo Rare Bastiodon GL illustrated by Hajime Kusajima. Steam Siege and Ultra Prism carried it through the XY and Sun and Moon eras, then Astral Radiance brought it into Sword and Shield before Pitch Black gave it a Rare by Kinu Nishimura and an Illustration rare by Yoriyuki Ikegami in the Mega Evolution era.

The most valuable Bastiodon card is the Diamond & Pearl era copy from Pokémon Rumble, 2009, which sits well ahead of a 2025 MEP Black Star Promos card. All 11 Bastiodon cards carry a market value, and the ten leading cards hold 100 percent of the total, so Bastiodon card value is set entirely by the top of the list. The priced cards span 2007 to 2026.
The Pokémon Rumble card leads Bastiodon card value by 5.1 times over the next card, the Promo from MEP Black Star Promos in 2025. Third is Bastiodon GL, a Holo Rare from Rising Rivals in 2009; a holo is a card with a foil-treated artwork window. Fourth is a Rare from POP Series 6 in 2007, and fifth is a Holo Rare from Ultra Prism in 2018. The most valuable Bastiodon cards come from several sets across different years.
Diamond & Pearl supplies four of the twenty-five leading Bastiodon cards, the most of any era, followed by three from Mega Evolution and one each from EX, XY and Sun & Moon. The newest era's leader is the MEP Black Star Promos card from 2025, which sits 2nd overall. Vintage here means the WOTC era, and modern is every later era: the top ten holds 10 modern cards, and the top twenty-five holds 11 modern cards.
Among the ten most valuable Bastiodon cards, five are printed as Rare, two as Holo Rare, one as Illustration rare and one as Promo. Widening to the leading twenty-five gives five Rare, three Holo Rare, one Illustration rare and one Promo. The Illustration rare is the Pitch Black card from 2026. Plain Rare prints make up the largest group among the leading Bastiodon cards.
By the value of its single leading card, Bastiodon ranks 253rd of 1020 species with priced cards, and by the combined value of its ten leaders it ranks 291st of 753. Shieldon, the only other member of the line, ranks 453rd of 1020 by its top card. Bastiodon cards therefore sit in the middle of the species field, with the market resting on one leading card.
