Super Rod's original Neo Genesis wording flipped a coin to retrieve either an Evolution card or a Basic Pokémon card from the discard pile into hand. Noble Victories replaced this entirely with a new effect: shuffling any combination of 3 Pokémon and basic Energy cards from the discard pile back into the deck, a different mechanic under the same name, and the Dragon Vault text also printed the standard Item-play reminder in the card body.
Super Rod first appeared in Neo Genesis in 2000 with art by Keiji Kinebuchi. 5ban Graphics illustrated the Noble Victories printing that introduced the reworked effect, along with a Tinsel Holofoil treatment in Dragon Vault, and Toyste Beach illustrated the BREAKthrough and Paldea Evolved printings, the latter including a Hyper rare treatment, spanning the WOTC, Black and White, XY, and Scarlet and Violet eras. The Noble Victories printing originated from the Japanese Red Collection, and the Dragon Vault Tinsel Holofoil printing came from the Japanese Dragon Selection subset.
Super Rod's Noble Victories print is similar to Night Maintenance from Mysterious Treasures, which in turn matched Nightly Garbage Run from the Team Rocket expansion. The card is based on the Super Rod, the most effective fishing item in the games.
