Max Potion

What it does

Max Potion fully heals a Pokémon at the cost of stripping away all of its attached Energy, a high-risk, high-reward trade compared to smaller healing Items that leave Energy in place. The three wordings describe the same trade, with BREAKpoint adding an 'if you do' conditional and Guardians Rising simplifying 'attached to' into 'from.'

Printing history

Max Potion first appeared in Emerging Powers in 2011 with art by 5ban Graphics, who also illustrated a Secret Rare treatment in Plasma Freeze. Toyste Beach illustrated the BREAKpoint printing and both the Regular and Full Art Secret versions in Guardians Rising, the card's final catalogued appearance, spanning the Black and White, XY, and Sun and Moon eras. In Japan the BREAKpoint artwork was also an unnumbered Mirror Holofoil promo at Battle Festa 2015, awarded for three wins in a Victory Battle session. The Emerging Powers printing was also distributed in Japan as a Mirror Foil promo awarded to players who reached the Premier Stage of the Battle Carnival 2012 Spring tournament series held across several Japanese cities.

Trivia

This card's effect matches that of Pokémon Nurse, a card released earlier in Expedition Base Set, though Max Potion is an Item card rather than a Supporter card. Max Potion is a healing item in the games introduced in Pokémon Red and Blue that fully heals a Pokémon's HP.
