Computer Search discards two cards to fetch any card from the deck into hand. The original Base Set wording simply required discarding 2 other cards from hand, while the Boundaries Crossed wording clarifies that the card cannot be played if the player is unable to discard 2 cards. Boundaries Crossed also made it an Ace Spec, and because that designation counts as a major text change, the Base Set print cannot be substituted for it in sanctioned play.
The card debuted in the WOTC era's Base Set with art by Keiji Kinebuchi and was reprinted in Base Set 2. It returned in the Black and White era's Boundaries Crossed as an Ace Spec Item with new art by Ryo Ueda. Our catalog lists 3 printings.
Prototype Pokémon Leagues received Computer Search ahead of Base Set's official release in the Trainer Deck B, distinguished by a red border and Trainer Deck B text on the back. The card represents the concept of PC storage from the Pokémon games.
