Wally is one of the two rivals in Pokémon Ruby, Sapphire and Emerald, the other being Brendan or May. He first appears in Petalburg City as a sickly boy about to move to Verdanturf Town, where the clean air may help his health. Before he leaves he asks Norman, the Petalburg Gym Leader, for help catching a Pokémon; Norman lends him a Zigzagoon and a Poké Ball and sends the player along, and Wally catches a Ralts.
He battles the player in Mauville City with that Ralts, then runs away from home and turns up at Victory Road, apparently recovered, for a much tougher battle that can be repeated after the Hall of Fame. In Ruby, Sapphire and Emerald his Ralts has become a Gardevoir by then. In the remakes, Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire, it evolves into Gallade instead, and Wally carries a handmade wooden Mega Pendant, shaped like a Gallade's head, that holds his Key Stone and lets Gallade Mega Evolve.
Wally's first card is Wally's Training, a Supporter from EX Sandstorm (2003) reprinted in Emerald (2005), both illustrated by Ken Sugimori. It searches your deck for a card that evolves from your Active Pokémon and evolves it on the spot, a neat fit for a character defined by raising one partner.
The XY expansion Roaring Skies (2015) brought a Supporter simply called Wally, which evolves one of your Pokémon straight from the deck even on the first turn or the turn it was played. It came as a regular Uncommon illustrated by Megumi Mizutani and a full art Ultra Rare by Emi Ando, and Generations (2016) printed it again in its Radiant Collection subset as #RC27.
Wally's Compassion arrived in Mega Evolution (2025), the first set of the Mega Evolution series. It heals all damage from one of your Mega Evolution Pokémon ex and returns that Pokémon's Energy to your hand, and it was printed as an Uncommon, an Ultra Rare and a Special Illustration Rare by Jiro Sasumo.
All of Wally's cards are Supporters, so collector interest centers on the premium treatments: the Roaring Skies full art and the Ultra Rare and Special Illustration Rare versions of Wally's Compassion. The two Wally's Training printings are the vintage end of the run, sharing the same Ken Sugimori art across Sandstorm and Emerald.

The leaders among the most valuable Wally cards come from the newest era, with Wally's Compassion from the Mega Evolution set in 2025 ranked first. All 8 of the 8 Wally cards carry a market value, and they span the years 2003 to 2025. Wally card value is set by a small pool, since the second card, the Roaring Skies Wally from 2015, sits about equal to the leader.
Wally's Compassion from Mega Evolution in 2025 is a special illustration rare, a full-art chase rarity, and it leads Wally card value about equal to the next card. That runner-up is the Ultra Rare Wally from Roaring Skies in 2015. Third is the Uncommon Wally from Generations in 2016, and fourth is a second Wally's Compassion, an Ultra Rare from the same 2025 Mega Evolution set. Fifth is Wally's Training, an Uncommon from Emerald in 2005.
Wally cards at the top spread across three eras. Of the leading eight, 3 come from XY, 3 from Mega Evolution and 2 from EX. The newest era's leader, Wally's Compassion from Mega Evolution in 2025, ranks 1st overall. All 8 of the leading cards are modern and none is vintage, where vintage means the WOTC era and modern is every later era. The same 8 appear in the top twenty-five, so the split is 8 modern and 0 vintage at both cutoffs.
The most valuable Wally cards are mostly plain prints. Among the ten leading cards, 5 are Uncommon, 2 are Ultra Rare and 1 is a special illustration rare. Widening to the top twenty-five adds nothing, since the same 5 Uncommon, 2 Ultra Rare and 1 special illustration rare make up the list. Wally's Training from Emerald and Sandstorm and the Wally cards from Roaring Skies and Generations account for several of the Uncommon prints.
Among the 110 characters with priced cards, Wally ranks 56th by the value of the single leading card. That puts Wally cards at the middle of the field. With the top two Wally cards about equal, the market rests on two cards sitting side by side, the 2025 special illustration rare and the 2015 Ultra Rare, with the rest of the Wally cards behind them.
