Maxie heads Team Magma, which wants to wake the Legendary Pokémon Groudon and expand the land. In Ruby and Omega Ruby he is the main villain: he tries to take Devon's shipment from Captain Stern in Slateport, his team steals Professor Cozmo's Meteorite at Meteor Falls for a machine on Mt. Chimney, and he takes an Orb from Mt. Pyre, steals Stern's Submarine Explorer 1 and awakens Groudon in the Seafloor Cavern, only to lose control of it. In Sapphire he has no active role and cannot be battled. In Emerald both teams are villains, and the player battles Maxie three times.
His team is built on Mightyena, Golbat or Crobat, and Camerupt, which Mega Evolves in Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire. After Primal Groudon is defeated in Omega Ruby, Maxie hands over the Red Orb and leaves with Archie to start over. In the Delta Episode his former grunt Zinnia steals his Key Stone, and he entrusts the player with his Cameruptite. Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon bring back an alternate-world Maxie as one of Team Rainbow Rocket's bosses.
His first card is a Supporter in Team Magma vs Team Aqua (2004), drawn by Ken Sugimori. It puts a Pokémon with Team Magma in its name from your hand or discard pile onto the Bench as if it were a Basic, adding two damage counters if it is a Stage 2. Primal Clash (2015) brought Maxie's Hidden Ball Trick, playable only as the last card in your hand: it puts a Fighting Pokémon from the discard pile onto the Bench, then draws five cards. It comes as an Uncommon by Sugimori (#133) and an Ultra Rare by Hitoshi Ariga (#158).

Maxie cards span 2004 to 2015, and all 3 of them carry a market value. The most valuable Maxie card is Maxie's Hidden Ball Trick, the Ultra Rare from Primal Clash in 2015. It sits ahead of a 2004 Uncommon from Team Magma vs Team Aqua and a second Primal Clash print of the same trainer card, so Maxie card value is set by a very small group of prints.
Maxie's Hidden Ball Trick from Primal Clash (2015) leads the most valuable Maxie cards, printed as an Ultra Rare. It stands 4.2 times ahead of the next card, the plain Maxie from Team Magma vs Team Aqua (2004), an Uncommon from the EX era. Third is another Maxie's Hidden Ball Trick from Primal Clash (2015), this one an Uncommon. Two of the three Maxie cards come from the same set and year, and the rarity gap between them is what separates first from third.
By the value of its single leading card, Maxie ranks 48th of 110 characters with priced cards. That places the character in the middle of the field. With only 3 priced cards, the Maxie card market rests on the Primal Clash Ultra Rare, with the 2004 Team Magma vs Team Aqua Uncommon and the second Primal Clash print well behind it.
