Karen is the final member of the Indigo League Elite Four in the Generation II games and their HeartGold and SoulSilver remakes. She favors Dark types for their tough, wild image, and holds that a skilled Trainer should try to win with the Pokémon they like best.
In Gold, Silver and Crystal her team is Umbreon, Vileplume, Gengar, Murkrow and Houndoom, opening with Umbreon and closing with Houndoom. Once the player has all 16 Badges in HeartGold and SoulSilver she fields a rematch team of Weavile, Absol, Spiritomb, Houndoom, Honchkrow and Umbreon, now finishing with Umbreon. Her Umbreon is the only male Pokémon on her team.
In Pokémon Stadium 2 she closes out the Johto Gym Leader Castle's Elite Four with a strategy of stacking confusion, infatuation and paralysis. In Pokémon Masters EX she pairs with Houndoom and Umbreon. In Pokémon Adventures she and Will are raised by the Masked Man before joining the Johto Elite Four.
Karen's Conviction is a Single Strike Supporter: for that turn, your Single Strike Pokémon's attacks deal 20 more damage to the opponent's Active Pokémon for each Prize card your opponent has taken. Chilling Reign (2021) printed it as an Uncommon (#144) by Ken Sugimori, and as a full-art Ultra Rare (#193) and Secret Rare (#216), both by Hideki Ishikawa.
