Gardenia

Gardenia in the anime

In the Diamond and Pearl anime, Ash first meets Gardenia in Eterna Forest, where her Turtwig beats both his Turtwig and Staravia before she has even told him she is the Gym Leader. In their official Gym battle, her Roserade knocked out Ash's Turtwig, and Aipom won the Forest Badge for Ash with a Swift and Focus Punch combination.

Gardenia on cards: from Ultra Prism to the Galarian Gallery

Gardenia's first English cards arrived in the Sun & Moon expansion Ultra Prism (2018): an Uncommon illustrated by Ken Sugimori, the franchise's longtime character designer, and a full-art Ultra Rare by You Iribi.

Gardenia's Vigor followed in Astral Radiance (2022) as an Uncommon by Yuu Nishida, a full-art Ultra Rare by En Morikura and a Rainbow Rare, also by En Morikura, numbered 202, above the set's printed total of 189. Crown Zenith's Galarian Gallery (2023) added a full-art version by Yoriyuki Ikegami.

Her Pokémon have cards of their own. Rising Rivals (2009) printed Roserade GL and Turtwig GL among its Gym Leader Pokémon, and Lost Origin's Trainer Gallery (2022) includes a Roserade card illustrated by saino misaki that features Gardenia.
