Three thousand years before Pokémon X and Y, AZ was a king of Kalos during a long war. His beloved Floette, a gift from his late mother, was taken by soldiers and died in the fighting. AZ built a machine that brought Floette back to life, then turned it into the ultimate weapon and ended the war by destroying both sides. Floette, repelled that the machine ran on the life energy of other Pokémon, left him, and the weapon's power left AZ with a vastly extended lifespan and towering height.
In X and Y he wanders Kalos, is imprisoned by Lysandre, and finally battles the player during the parade after they become Champion. After that battle his Floette, granted eternal life along with him, returns to him. He appears again in Pokémon Legends: Z-A, where he runs Hotel Z in Lumiose City. His Floette is the Eternal Flower Floette, a form that exists only because of his machine.

AZ cards span 2014 to 2026, and all 5 of them carry a market value. The most valuable AZ card is the Ultra Rare from Phantom Forces, printed in 2014, with the 2026 Chaos Rising cards of AZ's Tranquility filling out the rest of the ranking. With only five cards in the set of AZ cards, the AZ card value ranking is short, and a single Phantom Forces print sits at the head of it.
The Ultra Rare AZ from Phantom Forces (2014) leads the most valuable AZ cards, ahead of the next card by 1.2 times, which makes the top of the ranking close. That runner-up is the special illustration rare of AZ's Tranquility from Chaos Rising (2026), a full-art style chase rarity. 3rd is the Ultra Rare of AZ's Tranquility from the same set. The Uncommon AZ from Phantom Forces (2014) sits 4th, and the Uncommon AZ's Tranquility from Chaos Rising (2026) is 5th.
Among the 110 characters with priced cards, AZ ranks 46th by the value of its single leading card. The AZ card market rests on two designs, the 2014 Phantom Forces AZ and the 2026 Chaos Rising AZ's Tranquility, spread across five cards in three rarities. The leader is an Ultra Rare from the XY era and the next three places are split between a Mega Evolution special illustration rare and Ultra Rare and an XY Uncommon.
