Acerola is an orphan who lives at the Aether House on Ula'ula Island, and she is the last living member of an old Alolan royal family. The player first meets her in the Malie City library, which once belonged to her father, where she helps the player and Lillie find a book on Alola's Legendary Pokémon.
Her trial sends the player into the Thrifty Megamart's abandoned site to photograph the Ghost-type Pokémon causing mischief there with the Poké Finder, ending in a battle against a Totem Mimikyu. She later takes a seat on the Alola Elite Four after Nanu declines it, which makes her the only character who is both a captain and an Elite Four member. Her Elite Four team closes with Palossand holding a Ghostium Z in both Sun and Moon and Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon, backed by Drifblim, Dhelmise and Froslass, with Sableye in the first pair and Banette in the second.
In Pokémon the Series: Sun & Moon, Acerola debuts in Why Not Give Me a Z-Ring Sometime? alongside her Shiny Mimikyu, nicknamed Mimikins. She pushes her friend Nanu into accepting Ash's grand trial, referees both of their battles, and later enters the Manalo Conference, where she reaches the final 16 and loses to Kiawe.
Her first card is the Acerola Supporter from Burning Shadows (2017), illustrated by Ken Sugimori, with a full art Ultra Rare version (#142) by Megumi Mizutani in the same set.
Acerola's Premonition followed in Brilliant Stars (2022) as an Uncommon by Shiburingaru and an Ultra Rare Trainer Gallery card (TG24) by yuu. Acerola's Mischief arrived in Mega Evolution (2025) as an Uncommon and an Ultra Rare, both by Yuu Nishida, plus a Special Illustration Rare by sui, and the Uncommon was printed again in Ascended Heroes (2026). Every English card bearing her name is a Supporter, so collectors chase her through the full art, Trainer Gallery and Special Illustration Rare versions.
