Yamask is the Spirit Pokémon, a shadow-like being with two tendril-like arms and large red eyes, always holding a golden mask bearing a face from its time as a human. It retains memories from its past life and becomes furious if the mask is lost, while anyone who wears it becomes possessed.
Yamask evolves into Cofagrigus at level 34, and shares the lowest base Attack stat of any Ghost type Pokémon with Litwick and Gimmighoul.
Galarian Yamask is said to have formed when an ancient clay tablet, carved with cursed markings like a serpent's tail, was drawn to a vengeful spirit; it and evolves into Runerigus through a location-based method, the only one of its kind in Pokémon Sword and Shield.
Yamask's earliest cards are the two 2011 Noble Victories Commons illustrated by Midori Harada and Shin Nagasawa, followed by an Uncommon in Dark Explorers by Aya Kusube. Its Galarian form debuted in Rebel Clash as a Common by Akira Komayama.
Shining Fates added a Shiny rare Galarian Yamask by sowsow, and the 2025 White Flare set carried a Common by Bun Toujo and an Illustration rare by YASHIRO Nanaco.
