Wooper debuted in Generation II as a Water and Ground type, 0.4 meters tall and 8.5 kilograms. Damp stops any Pokémon on the field from using self-destructing moves, Water Absorb turns Water-type hits into healing, and its hidden ability, Unaware, lets it ignore the opponent's stat changes. It evolves into Quagsire at level 20.
Pokémon Scarlet and Violet (2022) added Paldean Wooper, a Poison and Ground regional form. It also evolves at level 20, but into Clodsire rather than Quagsire, so a single species now has two different evolutions depending on its form.
Wooper's first card is Neo Genesis #82 (December 2000), a Common illustrated by Miki Tanaka. Neo Discovery followed in 2001, and Aquapolis (2003) printed two, a Common by Keiko Fukuyama and an Uncommon by Atsuko Nishida. For most of its history Wooper has been a Common, the Basic that sets up Quagsire.
Dragon Frontiers (2006) printed Wooper δ, a Delta Species card. Delta Species Pokémon, marked with a δ next to the name, carry a type different from their usual one and belong to the Holon region storyline that ran through the EX sets of 2005 and 2006. Hidden Fates (2019) later gave the original form a Shiny rare in its Shiny Vault subset, drawn by Misa Tsutsui.
Paldean Wooper reached cards in 2023 and has since appeared as Commons in Paldea Evolved, Obsidian Flames, Paldean Fates and Journey Together, several of them drawn by Kouki Saitou. Its chase cards are special rarities: a Paldea Evolved illustration rare (#221) by Miki Tanaka, the same artist behind Wooper's Neo Genesis card, a Paldean Fates Shiny rare by Nisota Niso, and a Phantasmal Flames illustration rare (#102) by OKACHEKE from the Mega Evolution era.
