Venonat lives in dense temperate forests, sleeping in tree holes through the day since the small insects it feeds on only appear at night, and both Venonat and its prey are drawn to bright lights. Its big red compound eyes work like radar and can fire beams, and its purple fur gives off a toxic liquid when it is shaken hard.
Bulbapedia notes Venonat and Venomoth went the longest of any Pokémon without appearing in a regional Pokédex outside of remakes, last appearing in Crystal roughly 22 years before returning in Scarlet and Violet.
Venonat debuted in Jungle as a Common illustrated by Mitsuhiro Arita, and Gym Heroes later printed a Sabrina's Venonat illustrated by Ken Sugimori. It has remained a Common card through most of its printings, including Unbroken Bonds with two separate printings and a 151 set printing illustrated by Kagemaru Himeno.
