Varoom is a Generation 9 Steel and Poison type based on a single-cylinder internal combustion engine, possibly inspired by tsukumogami, tool spirits possessing everyday objects, since it is said to be created when a Poison type possesses an unused engine at a scrap-processing factory. It attaches to wheel-shaped rocks and feeds on their minerals, converting them into energy while levitating rather than moving on the ground. Along with its evolution it is the only Steel type consisting of a head and legs, and is immune to its own Poison typing. It evolves into Revavroom at level 40.
Varoom made its animated debut in Dot and Nidothing as a wild Pokémon, running off with Dot's Nidothing costume after being agitated by Tinkatink, before being calmed by Dot's Quaxly.
The Scarlet and Violet base set gave Varoom two Commons, by Shin Nagasawa and nagimiso. Obsidian Flames added an illustration rare illustrated by Souichirou Gunjima alongside two further Common printings.
