Pidove is a small gray pigeon Pokémon with a pale, heart-shaped patch on its chest. It always listens to its trainer's commands but does not always understand them, and is forgetful enough that it will wait for new orders even right after receiving one, a trait exaggerated further in Detective Pikachu, where Pidove forget even their own names. Many trainers love Pidove for its friendliness despite this.
It evolves into Tranquill at level 21 and then into Unfezant at level 32, and it is the only Pokémon with a base stat total of 264. It is also tied with Taillow, Wingull, Starly, and Pikipek for the lowest base Special Defense stat of any Flying-type Pokémon, and was designed by Reiko Tanoue.
Pidove is based on pigeons and doves with a heart motif added, a pun on the homophonous Japanese words hato, meaning pigeon, and haato, meaning heart. It may also reference doves symbolizing romance through their association with Aphrodite in Greek mythology, and its Shiny form may be based on the rock dove.
Pidove's earliest card was a 2011 Black & White Common illustrated by Masakazu Fukuda, and Naoki Saito drew its Emerging Powers card. Masakazu Fukuda also drew both of its BW trainer Kit (Zoroark) cards, and Tomomi Ozaki drew its Black Bolt Common. Outside the games, Pidove appears in the Pokémon Adventures manga. Pokémon GO added a Common illustrated by N-DESIGN Inc., and Black Bolt paired a Common with an Illustration Rare illustrated by Mori Yuu.

Pidove is the Tiny Pigeon Pokémon, a normal/flying type that evolves into Tranquill at level 21 and then Unfezant at level 32. Despite its friendliness, it is forgetful enough to need repeated commands from its trainer, and it carries a heart-shaped marking on its chest inspired by a Japanese pun.
