Komala is a blue-gray Pokémon resembling a koala, with large rounded ears, a big black nose, fluffy white eyebrows, and a short wooden log it holds from birth to death. It does not evolve. Its diet of certain leaves containing a poison only Komala can break down keeps it in a permanent sedative sleep for its whole life, and it shares the category name Drowsing Pokémon with Musharna.
Komala appears to be based on a koala and its tendency to sleep up to twenty hours a day, with the log it holds likely meant to represent a body pillow or dakimakura.
Komala debuted under the ownership of Samson Oak, spending most of its time asleep while ringing the Pokémon School bell, and it later won the Pokémon Pancake Race. On cards, its first was a Guardians Rising uncommon by Kouki Saitou. An SM Black Star Promos Komala by nagimiso also exists, and Unified Minds added an uncommon by Miki Tanaka. Lost Origin contributed an uncommon by HYOGONOSUKE, and Journey Together a common by Natsumi Yoshida.
