Ivysaur has been in the series since Pokémon Red and Green. It evolves from Bulbasaur at level 16 and into Venusaur at level 32, keeping the line's Grass and Poison typing throughout. Its ability is Overgrow, which powers up Grass-type moves when its HP is low, and its hidden ability, Chlorophyll, doubles its Speed in harsh sunlight. It stands 1.0 meter tall and weighs 13 kilograms.
Ivysaur's first English card is Base Set #30 (January 1999), an Uncommon illustrated by Ken Sugimori. The same art returned in Base Set 2 and Legendary Collection, and Sugimori also drew Erika's Ivysaur for Gym Challenge (2000), one of the Gym Leader Pokémon cards tied to Erika's Grass-type gym. Southern Islands and Expedition Base Set added new Ivysaur art before the WOTC era closed.
The WOTC era's oddity is Dark Ivysaur from Best of Game, a promo set handed out through BattleZone tournaments near the end of Wizards of the Coast's license. Dark Ivysaur was one of four cards in it that had never been released in English before. Dark Pokémon, introduced in the Team Rocket expansion, are the card game's corrupted versions of a species, said to come from Team Rocket raising them without proper care.
In the EX era Ivysaur appeared in FireRed & LeafGreen (2004), in two Pokémon Organized Play sets (POP Series 2 and POP Series 3), and twice in Crystal Guardians (2006). After that it turned up every few years, in sets such as Secret Wonders, Dark Explorers, Shining Legends and Pokémon GO.
Scarlet & Violet's 151 (2023) gave it both a regular Uncommon and an illustration rare by Yoriyuki Ikegami, and the Mega Evolution base set (2025) repeated the pattern with a Common and an illustration rare by mashu.
