Comfey is a pure Fairy type that does not evolve. It grows thin blue vines from the back of its head and hangs flowers on them, most often white, purple, red and yellow, and when the vines are not in use they coil into a dome under its green crest. It is the smallest fully evolved Pokémon, and the only member of the Grass Egg Group that is not a Grass type.
Comfey appears to be modeled on the lei, the Hawaiian wreath of flowers, leaves or vines given to honor people or mark occasions, fitting for a Pokémon from Alola, a region drawn from Hawaii. Leis stand for love and hospitality, which may explain Comfey's friendly nature and its use in hospitals. Its name mixes comfy, comfort, comfrey, fey and lei.
Comfey's earliest card is a 2017 Guardians Rising Rare illustrated by Sanosuke Sakuma. Later prints include a Rare in Lost Origin illustrated by Aya Kusube and a Rare in Crown Zenith's Galarian Gallery illustrated by Yano Keiji. Stellar Crown and Journey Together then printed further versions, the latter as Lillie's Comfey illustrated by Narumi Sato.
