Kyogre is a Generation III Legendary Pokémon that does not evolve, and the game mascot of Pokémon Sapphire and its remake Alpha Sapphire. Hoenn's legends cast it as the maker of the oceans and Groudon as the maker of the land; the two fought until Rayquaza calmed them, and Kyogre was left sleeping in the Seafloor Cavern. Its ability, Drizzle, summons rain when it enters battle, and it is the only Pokémon that learns Origin Pulse. It measures 4.5 meters and weighs 352 kilograms.
Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire added Primal Reversion, which the games describe as separate from Mega Evolution because it is fueled by natural energy. Holding the Blue Orb, Kyogre becomes Primal Kyogre: still a pure Water type, but 9.8 meters and 430 kilograms, with the ability Primordial Sea, which makes Fire type attacks fail outright instead of merely weakening them.
Kyogre's first animated appearance is a swim through the opening of the movie Jirachi: Wish Maker. Its physical series debut is the Advanced Generation two-parter Gaining Groudon and The Scuffle of Legends, in which Team Magma and Team Aqua each hold one of the Hoenn Legendaries and Kyogre ends up battling Groudon. A Primal Kyogre is one of the Legendary Pokémon the shadow Hoopa Unbound summons and hypnotizes in Hoopa and the Clash of Ages, and in the Sun and Moon episode The One That Didn't Get Away!, Lana cures and calms a Kyogre that poachers had poisoned.
Kyogre's first card is a Kyogre ex on the Nintendo Black Star Promos list (#1). Team Magma vs Team Aqua (2004) made Team Aqua's Kyogre a Water and Darkness dual type holo, and Hidden Legends (2004) and Crystal Guardians (2006) each printed a Kyogre ex. Kyogre Star, #112 in EX Delta Species (2005), is its Gold Star card, a shiny-colored Pokémon Star by Masakazu Fukuda that shares the set with Groudon Star and Metagross Star.
HS Undaunted (2010) split Kyogre & Groudon LEGEND across two half-cards (#87 and #88) that can only be put onto the Bench together and then play as one Pokémon. Dark Explorers (2012) printed Kyogre-EX with a full art at #104, and Primal Clash (2015) brought Primal Reversion to the card game: Primal Kyogre-EX evolves from Kyogre-EX, carries the α Growth Ancient Trait and has a full art at #149. Ancient Origins added a different Primal Kyogre-EX later in 2015, a Secret Rare (#96) with the θ Max trait. Later highlights include an Amazing Rare Kyogre in Shining Fates (2021) and Kyogre V in Crown Zenith (2023).
Our catalog lists 33 Kyogre cards across 22 sets, with the XY era (9) and the EX era (8) carrying the most. Nearly every headline Kyogre has a Groudon counterpart, from the Gold Star pair to the LEGEND they share and the matching Primal EX cards, so collectors often chase the two together.
