Pansage

Pansage in the games

Pansage is a green-and-cream monkey Pokémon with a broccoli-like sprout on its head and two leaves at the tip of its tail, and it evolves into Simisage with a Leaf Stone. Takao Unno designed it with Pansear and Panpour as partners for the Striaton Gym Leaders, whose Gym doubles as a restaurant, which gave the trio a cooking theme. Its English name pairs Pan, the chimpanzee genus, with sage, a herb that also means a wise person, fitting the three wise monkeys idea behind the trio. The leaves in its head sprout are edible and can alleviate exhaustion, and it dwells deep in forests, gathering Berries to share with its friends. Pansage and its evolution are the only non-starter Pokémon with Overgrow as an Ability, and it was first shown, alongside Axew, as an unnamed toy photographed in July 2010 before Pokémon Sunday officially revealed it that August.
