Energy Recycler

What it does

Energy Recycler restocks a player's deck with Energy by shuffling discarded basic Energy cards back in, rather than returning them to hand. The original Ancient Origins wording required shuffling exactly 5, while Battle Styles clarified the card works with up to 5, avoiding any question about what happens with fewer available in the discard pile at the time it's played.

Printing history

Energy Recycler first appeared in Ancient Origins in 2015 with art by Toyste Beach, who has illustrated every printing of the card. It reappeared in Guardians Rising and as a Full Art Secret card in Forbidden Light during the Sun and Moon era, then in Battle Styles, Destined Rivals, and the Mega Evolution era's Perfect Order with an Ultra Rare treatment, giving it a run across five different set eras. Its Guardians Rising printing also appeared as a Non Holofoil card in the Japanese Tapu Bulu-GX Enhanced Starter Set, and the Destined Rivals printing originated from Japanese ex Starter Set products themed around Steven's Beldum and Metagross and Marnie's Morpeko and Grimmsnarl.

Trivia

Energy Recycler has seen consistent reprints across five different eras, from the XY era through the Mega Evolution era, always illustrated by Toyste Beach, the card's only credited artist across more than a decade of releases. The card has never required a coin flip or discard cost to use.
