The variants are what turn a 62-card set into a large job. The Fossil master set takes 269 slots, about 4.3 for every card in the set, because most cards exist in several prints rather than one. Normal finishes account for 219 slots and holos for 50. Nine cards to a side, the full run fills 15 double-sided binder pages. This is an English-language Pokémon TCG set from the WOTC era, released on October 10, 1999, and the master set checklist is far longer than the official count of 62 suggests.
The Fossil master set is built from eight variant families, and the largest are Normal 1999 2000 Copyright at 47 slots, Normal 1st Edition Foil Galaxy at 46, Normal Foil Galaxy at 46, and the Normal 1st Edition and Normal Unlimited prints at 32 each. The holo cards repeat across three further families of 15 slots apiece, including Holo 1st Edition Foil Galaxy. A 1st Edition print carries the edition stamp, while Unlimited is the standard run without it. The Foil Galaxy families are separate slots a master set collector must fill in addition to the plain prints.

In the Fossil master set, value is concentrated heavily at the top. The ten most valuable slots hold 54 percent of the total, while the lower-value half of the priced slots holds just 3 percent, so most of the checklist is a small part of the cost. Holo finishes account for 79 percent of the master set cost and normal finishes for 21 percent. Of the 269 slots, 154 carry a price, as of October 24, 2026. The value therefore sits in a short list of holo slots, not in the bulk of the binder.

The hardest slots in the Fossil master set are mostly variants, not main prints. The Holo 1st Edition Foil Galaxy versions of Dragonite, Gengar and Haunter, all Rare, rank first through third by value. Gengar's Holo Foil Galaxy variant follows in fourth, and the Holo 1st Edition Foil Galaxy Lapras, also Rare, takes fifth. Together these five slots hold 36 percent of the master set's total value. A collector who owns the standard holo of each card has not covered these slots, which is where Foil Galaxy completion often catches people out.
At 269 slots, the Fossil master set is about 1.2 times the era median of 226, so it is somewhat larger than a typical WOTC-era set. By master set value it ranks 16th of 16 comparable sets in its era, the lowest of the group. The set before it, Jungle, has 150 slots, and its master set holds higher value. The set after it, Base Set 2, has 130 slots and also holds higher value. Fossil asks for more slots than both neighbours while holding less total value.

A Fossil master set is one copy of every card AND every variant in the set — the 62 cards on this page, with their Normal, Reverse Holo and Holo prints each listed and priced on their own. Sign in and the checklist tracks what you own, in step with the Cardboard Alpha app.
The large NM-only figure is a complete catalog estimate when every printing has current NM pricing. LP, MP, HP, and DMG “and up” totals below it use the requested condition or a better available condition. These are summed reference prices, not a quote from one seller; a dash means the current market does not cover every printing yet.
“LP and up” means lightly played or better: the total uses LP when available, then NM as the better-condition fallback. The MP, HP, and DMG tiers follow the same pattern.
