The variants in the Base Set 2 master set are few, which is why the whole job comes to 130 slots, exactly the 130 cards in the English-language Pokémon TCG set, so each card adds one slot. Normal prints fill 110 of them and holos fill 20. Laid out nine to a side, the full master set checklist fits in 8 double-sided binder pages, a compact run for a WOTC era release from February 24, 2000. The card count and the slot count are the same number here.
Base Set 2 has no reverse holo layer, so the Base Set 2 master set is built from only a few families. The Normal family is by far the largest at 109 slots, followed by 20 Holo slots, the foil-pattern prints that anchor the set. One further slot is a separate Normal Wotc print of a card that also appears in the main normal run. For a collector that single extra slot is the detail worth checking, because it sits apart from the plain normal and holo counts.
| Variant family | Slots | Priced | Share of value |
|---|---|---|---|
| Normal | 109 | 109 | 14% |
| Holo | 20 | 20 | 85% |
| Normal Wotc | 1 | 1 | <1% |
The Base Set 2 master set cost is heavily lopsided. Of the 130 slots, all 130 carry a price as of October 24, 2026, and the ten most valuable slots hold 68 percent of the total value. Holos account for 85 percent of it against 15 percent for normals, while the lower-value half of the priced slots adds up to just 3 percent. Condition matters a great deal: the LP and up total sits 43 percent below Near Mint, and the MP and up total sits 58 percent below it.

The difficulty in this master set sits in five holo rares: the Charizard, Mewtwo, Blastoise, Venusaur and Raichu holos, in that value order. Together they hold 55 percent of the master set's total value. None of them is a variant slot, since each is the card's main holo print, so there are no hidden surprises in the checklist. The challenge is simply that the top of the Base Set 2 master set is concentrated in a handful of famous holographic rare cards.
At 130 slots, the Base Set 2 master set is about 0.6 times the era median of 226 slots among WOTC sets, so it is a short job by the standards of its era. By master set value it ranks 15th of 16 comparable sets, near the bottom. Fossil, the previous set, takes 269 slots, and its master set holds lower value than this one. Team Rocket, the next set, takes 172 slots and its master set holds higher value.

A Base Set 2 master set is one copy of every card AND every variant in the set — the 130 cards on this page, with their Normal, Reverse Holo and Holo prints each listed and priced on their own. Sign in and the checklist tracks what you own, in step with the Cardboard Alpha app.
The large NM-only figure is a complete catalog estimate when every printing has current NM pricing. LP, MP, HP, and DMG “and up” totals below it use the requested condition or a better available condition. These are summed reference prices, not a quote from one seller; a dash means the current market does not cover every printing yet.
“LP and up” means lightly played or better: the total uses LP when available, then NM as the better-condition fallback. The MP, HP, and DMG tiers follow the same pattern.
