Most Valuable Charizard Pokemon Cards: A Price Guide
Charizard's top sales, from a press-reported $1.7 million Japanese Base Set PSA 10 and Heritage's recorded $550,000 1st Edition down to a $10 Hidden Fates GX, every figure dated and sourced.
The highest Charizard sale reported to date is a 1996 Japanese Base Set "No Rarity Symbol" print graded PSA 10, which sold for $1,700,000 on March 3, 2026, according to Sports Illustrated Collectibles. SI does not name the venue, and no auction house or platform record of the sale was found for this guide.
The highest Charizard price confirmed here by the auction house's own published results is $550,000. Heritage Auctions sold a PSA 10 1st Edition Base Set Charizard for that amount, with buyer's premium, in December 2025.
Press reports put English-print copies higher since. SI Collectibles reported a PSA 10 1st Edition Base Set Charizard selling for $1,000,952.84 on eBay on September 9, 2026.
All of these are graded, decades-old cards. A raw or modern Charizard costs a small fraction of any of them, as little as about $10 for the regular Charizard GX from Hidden Fates.
This guide prices both ends of that range on dated, sourced reads: the graded record sales, three raw vintage prints, and seven modern chase cards spanning 2019 through 2025.
Base Set Charizard 4/102. Heritage sold a PSA 10 1st Edition copy for $550,000 in December 2025; SI Collectibles reported another selling for $1,000,952.84 on eBay in September 2026. Raw, TCGplayer priced the Shadowless print at $2,257.87 and the Unlimited print at $944.53 as of September 26, 2026.

The table lists the sales this guide could source and date, not every high-grade Charizard sale. "Press report" means the price comes from news coverage, not from a record published by the auction house or marketplace itself.
The Japanese "No Rarity" print shows the steepest climb. The same print, at the same PSA 10 grade, sold for $264,000 in a Heritage auction in September 2022, per Antiques and The Arts Weekly. Five days after the March 2026 sale, a similar card in a PSA case signed by artist Mitsuhiro Arita sold for $1,232,200, per the same SI Collectibles roundup.
The English 1st Edition moved on its own curve. Heritage's December 12-13, 2025 Trading Card Games Signature Auction sold a PSA 10 copy for $550,000 with buyer's premium, a price Heritage said beat the card's pandemic-era record at public auction.
Two months later, a PSA 10 copy pulled in Logan Paul's box break, with a "Logan Paul Break" label on its slab, sold for $954,800 at Goldin Auctions in February 2026, per SI Collectibles. In September 2026, SI Collectibles reported another PSA 10 copy selling for $1,000,952.84 on eBay.
How thin the PSA 10 populations are
Population is the clearest measurable difference between the two Base Set prints. As of the September 2022 Heritage sale, PSA had graded the Japanese "No Rarity" Base Set Charizard a perfect 10 only eight times, per Antiques and The Arts Weekly's report on that auction. The English 1st Edition print had reached PSA 10 121 times at that point.
The English count has stayed close to that level since. Heritage described its December 2025 copy as one of only 125 English 1st Edition Charizards certified PSA Gem Mint 10. No newer population figure for the Japanese print was sourced for this guide, so the eight-copy count is a 2022 reading, not a current one.
None of those sales describes what an ordinary collector pays for an ungraded card. Raw copies trade for far less, and the price depends heavily on print run and edition.

All three prices are TCGplayer's published market data. TCGplayer did not publish a market price for the raw 1st Edition printing of either card on the same read, so this guide gives no raw 1st Edition figure rather than borrow one from a different print. The Shadowless Base Set copy carried more than double the Unlimited print's price.
That spread shows up again further down the ladder. Phantasmal Flames' Mega Charizard X ex Special Illustration Rare, the most expensive of the seven modern cards below at $679.99, costs about 30% of the raw Shadowless Base Set price.
The modern chase-card ladder, 2019 to 2025
Modern Charizard chase cards trade on a different scale from the vintage grails above. The seven cards below are Charizard ultra, secret and illustration rares from 2019 through 2025, priced as raw TCGplayer market prices read September 26, 2026.

Mega Charizard X ex, Special Illustration Rare, Phantasmal Flames. TCGplayer market price $679.99 as of September 26, 2026, the most expensive of the seven modern cards in this guide's ladder.
The ladder does not move in a straight line by year. Champion's Path's 2020 VMAX outprices both the 2022 VSTAR and the 2023 Obsidian Flames ex, and Phantasmal Flames, the newest set here, supplies both the most expensive card on the list and the third most expensive.
The ladder is a selection, not a complete ranking. Hidden Fates' Shiny Vault Charizard GX (SV49/SV94), a different card from the regular 9/68 above, carried a TCGplayer market price of $768.10 on the same September 26, 2026 read, above every card in the table.
The same rarity-tier pattern shows up inside a single set, not just across sets: the full 151 set price breakdown prices every rarity tier in 151 the same way this guide prices Charizard across sets. Set-by-set value guides cover the rest of the modern catalog on the same basis, and the screener tracks other chase cards on the same live price data.
What this guide doesn't price
A few gaps are worth stating rather than papering over. This guide has no CGC or BGS population or price data, only PSA. PSA's own population report could not be read directly for this piece; the PSA counts above are quoted from Heritage's own December 2025 sale announcement and from press coverage of the September 2022 Heritage auction, and each is dated to that sale.
Three of the graded sales above, the $1.7 million Japanese copy, the $954,800 Goldin sale and the $1,000,952.84 eBay sale, are sourced to SI Collectibles' sales coverage rather than to the selling platform's own record. SI does not name where the $1.7 million sale took place, and secondary pages disagree on it, so this guide names no venue for that sale.
Prices also move. Every dollar figure above is a single dated read, not a trend line, and the English-print record set in December 2025 was, per press reports, broken twice within nine months. Treat this guide as a snapshot of where the market sat on the dates attached to each number, not a forecast of where it goes next.
Frequently asked questions
What is the most valuable Charizard card ever sold?
The highest reported Charizard sale is $1,700,000 for a 1996 Japanese Base Set Charizard with no rarity symbol, graded PSA 10, on March 3, 2026, per Sports Illustrated Collectibles. That figure is press-reported: SI does not name the venue, and no auction house or platform record of the sale was found. The highest Charizard sale in this guide confirmed by the auction house's own published results is Heritage Auctions' $550,000 PSA 10 1st Edition Base Set copy from December 2025.
What is the most valuable English-print Charizard?
The highest English-print Charizard sale on the auction house's own record in this guide is Heritage Auctions' $550,000, with buyer's premium, for a PSA 10 1st Edition Base Set copy at its December 12-13, 2025 auction. Higher prices have since been reported in the press: SI Collectibles reported $954,800 at Goldin Auctions in February 2026 and $1,000,952.84 on eBay on September 9, 2026, both for PSA 10 1st Edition copies.
Why does the Japanese Base Set Charizard sell for more than the English 1st Edition?
The clearest measurable difference is population. PSA had graded the Japanese 'No Rarity' print PSA 10 only 8 times as of a September 2022 Heritage sale, against 121 for the English 1st Edition at the time. Heritage described its December 2025 English copy as one of only 125 PSA 10s.
How much does a raw, ungraded 1st Edition Charizard cost?
TCGplayer did not publish a market price for a raw 1st Edition Base Set Charizard as of September 26, 2026. The closest raw print it did price, the Shadowless copy without the 1st Edition stamp, carried $2,257.87, against $944.53 for the Unlimited print.
Which modern Charizard in this guide's ladder is priced highest?
Among the seven 2019-2025 cards in this guide's ladder, Phantasmal Flames' Mega Charizard X ex Special Illustration Rare carried the highest raw market price at $679.99 as of September 26, 2026. The ladder is a selection, not a full ranking: Hidden Fates' Shiny Vault Charizard GX carried $768.10 on the same read.
Which card is the cheapest in this guide's modern ladder?
Charizard GX 9/68 from Hidden Fates, a 2019 Ultra Rare, at $10.14 raw as of September 26, 2026. It is the set's regular Charizard GX, not the Shiny Vault version.
