Release date, card count, chase cards and how it compares with the XY era.
Blastoise EX and Venusaur EX headline XY, the English-language Pokémon TCG expansion that opened the XY era on February 5, 2014 under the set code XY. It runs 146 cards, well beyond the 113-card median for its era. The card list leans on Grass, Colorless, Water and Darkness Pokémon, and it prints several names in more than one version, among them Aegislash, Blastoise EX, Emolga EX, Inkay and Jigglypuff. Its release date places it between Legendary Treasures and Flashfire, and its roster is built around EX cards and their Mega evolutions.
The rarity ladder in XY is short: commons, uncommons and rares fill the base, then 14 Ultra Rare chase cards sit on top. The most valuable cards are all Ultra Rares, led by Blastoise EX and Venusaur EX, both illustrated by Ryo Ueda, followed by Xerneas EX and Yveltal EX from 5ban Graphics, with Emolga EX next. Value is heavily concentrated, since the top five cards alone hold 67 percent of the set's total card value. 5ban Graphics is credited on 54 cards, far more than any other illustrator.
XY was released February 5, 2014.

As of October 2026, XY ranks 12th by total card value among the 14 comparable XY-era sets, at about 0.7 times the era median, and 100th across the whole game. Its single most valuable card ranks 10th in the era, and it is 12th for trading activity. Legendary Treasures, which came before it, holds more total value, and so does Flashfire, which followed in May 2014. For source material, its cards first appeared in Japan in Collection X and Collection Y, both released December 13, 2013.

XY has 146 catalog printings, and all 146 are priced, so the full run can be tracked card by card. Because the top five cards carry so much of the set's value, the cost of a complete set depends mostly on a handful of Ultra Rare EX cards, while the many commons, uncommons and rares make up the bulk of the count. The sealed line for XY lists 28 products, mainly blisters, tins, decks, Elite Trainer Boxes and booster packs, alongside a booster box.
