The variants are what turn the XY master set from a 146-card checklist into 270 slots, an average of 1.8 slots per card. In the English-language Pokémon TCG, this base expansion of the XY era, released February 5, 2014, splits its slots across 123 reverse holo, 117 normal and 30 holo. Laid out at nine cards a side, the full master set checklist fills 15 double-sided binder pages, so the count of cards in the set understates the work by a wide margin.
Four families make up the XY master set. Reverse holo is the largest at 123 slots, and it covers Rare, Uncommon and Common cards, so most of the set's reverse holo slots sit among the everyday pulls. Normal prints add 116 slots, and the 30 holo slots hold the set's holofoil cards. One further family, Normal Professor Program, adds a single slot. A reverse holo is simply a second print of the same card with the foil on the card body rather than the artwork box, and each one needs its own pocket in a complete master set.
| Variant family | Slots | Priced | Share of value |
|---|---|---|---|
| Reverse Holo | 123 | 123 | 21% |
| Normal | 116 | 116 | 5.9% |
| Holo | 30 | 30 | 71% |
| Normal Professor Program | 1 | 1 | 1.4% |
The XY master set cost is heavily concentrated: the ten most valuable slots hold 65 percent of the total value, while the lower-value half of the priced slots together account for just 5 percent. Holos carry 73 percent of the value despite being the smallest finish by slot count, reverse holos hold 21 percent, and normal prints only 6 percent. Of the 270 slots, 269 carry a price. As of October 24, 2026, the LP and up total sits 35 percent below Near Mint and the MP and up total sits 58 percent below, so condition tolerance moves the total sharply.

The hardest slots are the high-tier holo EX cards. Blastoise EX leads, followed by Xerneas EX, Venusaur EX, Yveltal EX and Emolga EX, each an Ultra Rare in its Holo variant rather than an unusual variant of a lesser card. Together these five hold 54 percent of the XY master set's total value, so finishing the set mostly means landing those few EX holos while the large bulk of normal and reverse holo slots is comparatively easy to fill.
At 270 slots, the XY master set is about 1.3 times the era median of 209 slots among 14 comparable sets of the XY era, so it is a larger job than most. By master set value it ranks 12th of those 14, which means the extra slots do not translate into a higher-value set. The previous set, Legendary Treasures, has 243 slots and a master set that holds higher value. The next set, Flashfire, is smaller at 197 slots yet also holds higher value, so the XY master set sits at the lower-value end of its neighbours.

A XY master set is one copy of every card AND every variant in the set — the 146 cards on this page, with their Normal, Reverse Holo and Holo prints each listed and priced on their own. Sign in and the checklist tracks what you own, in step with the Cardboard Alpha app.
The large NM-only figure is a complete catalog estimate when every printing has current NM pricing. LP, MP, HP, and DMG “and up” totals below it use the requested condition or a better available condition. These are summed reference prices, not a quote from one seller; a dash means the current market does not cover every printing yet.
“LP and up” means lightly played or better: the total uses LP when available, then NM as the better-condition fallback. The MP, HP, and DMG tiers follow the same pattern.
