Release date, card count, chase cards and how it compares with the XY era.
XY is the English-language Pokémon TCG expansion that opened the XY era, released on February 5, 2014 under the set code XY. Its card list runs to 146 cards, and the headline cards are Ultra Rare EX Pokémon: Blastoise EX, Venusaur EX, Xerneas EX and Yveltal EX lead the value table, with Aegislash, Emolga EX, Inkay and Jigglypuff among the names printed in more than one version. The set leans on Grass, Colorless, Water and Darkness Pokémon, giving it a broad spread of types rather than a single theme.
The pull ladder in XY climbs from commons through uncommons and rares to 14 Ultra Rare cards, and those EX cards are what the set is opened for. Blastoise EX tops the most valuable cards, with Venusaur EX, Xerneas EX and Yveltal EX behind it, and Emolga EX rounds out the top five. Ryo Ueda illustrated Blastoise EX and Venusaur EX, while 5ban Graphics drew Xerneas EX and Yveltal EX. The top five cards alone hold 67 percent of the set's total card value, so the chase cards carry nearly all of the worth.

The full run of XY is 146 printings, and all 146 are priced, so a complete card list can be tracked card by card. Because the top five cards carry 67 percent of the set's value, the cost of finishing it is driven by a handful of Ultra Rare EX cards while the commons, uncommons and rares are the easier part. The sealed line has 28 products, mostly booster packs, a booster box, blisters, tins, decks and Elite Trainer Boxes, alongside a range of other sealed items.
