Pitch Black reached shelves on July 17, 2026, as an expansion in the Mega Evolution era and series of the English-language Pokémon TCG. Its set code is PBL, and it carries 84 official cards with 36 secret cards numbered above that, for 120 catalog printings in all. The set is built around Mega Darkrai ex, which appears in four versions, with Gladion's Final Battle, Gwynn, Mega Chandelure ex and Mega Zeraora ex each printed three times. Darkness, Psychic, Water and Lightning are the types it leans on, and a Mega Darkrai ex tops its card list.
The pull ladder in Pitch Black climbs from commons and uncommons through rares and double rares to ultra rares, illustration rares, special illustration rares and a single Mega Hyper Rare, giving 46 chase-tier cards, with the secret cards numbered past the printed 84. The Mega Darkrai ex special illustration rare by AKIRA EGAWA is the most valuable card, followed by the Mega Darkrai ex Mega Hyper Rare illustrated by 5ban Graphics, Morpeko ex, Mega Zeraora ex and Mega Chandelure ex. The top five cards alone hold 72 percent of the set's total card value, so value sits in a very small group of pulls.
As of October 2026, Pitch Black holds the 5th highest total card value of the 7 comparable Mega Evolution sets, about half the era median, and its top card also ranks 5th among the era's single most valuable cards. Trading activity is stronger, ranking 3rd in the era. At 84 printed cards it runs smaller than the era median of 94, and it ranks 110th by total value across the whole game. It followed Chaos Rising, which holds less total value, and came before 30th Celebration, which holds more. Its cards first appeared in the Japanese set M5: Abyss Eye, released May 22, 2026, with 58 shared cards.

Completing Pitch Black means tracking down all 120 catalog printings, and every one of them is priced. Because the top five cards carry such a large share of the set's value, the cost of a full run depends mostly on that handful of special illustration rares and the Mega Hyper Rare, while the commons, uncommons and rares fill in around them. The sealed line is broad at 23 products, spanning booster packs, a booster box, Elite Trainer Boxes, Build & Battle Boxes, blisters and bundles, so collectors have many formats to work with when building toward the card list.
