Release date, card count, chase cards and how it compares with the WOTC era.
Jungle sits in the WOTC era of the English-language Pokémon TCG as an expansion in the Base series, following the original Base Set and arriving ahead of Fossil. It released on June 16, 1999 under the set code JU and carries 64 cards, all of them numbered in the official count. Its identity comes from a run of Pokémon that appear in more than one version, including Clefable, Electrode, Flareon, Jolteon and Kangaskhan, and from a type spread that leans on Grass, Colorless, Fighting and Lightning.
Jungle's rarity structure is simple: 16 commons and 16 uncommons sit under 32 rares, and 16 of those are counted as chase-tier cards. Jolteon leads the card list by value, followed by Scyther, Snorlax, Mr. Mime and Vaporeon, all of them rares. Kagemaru Himeno illustrated Jolteon and Vaporeon, while Ken Sugimori drew Scyther, Snorlax and Mr. Mime. The top five cards hold 38 percent of the set's total card value, a moderate concentration, so the value is spread across a broad band of rares rather than resting on one or two cards.

As of October 2026, Jungle holds the 12th highest total card value of the 16 comparable WOTC sets, about 0.6 times the era median, and ranks 58th across the whole game. Its single most valuable card ranks 15th in the era, yet it places 7th for trading activity. At 64 cards it runs smaller than the era median of 108. Base Set came before it and holds similar total value, while Fossil followed and holds lower total value.

A complete Jungle run covers 64 printings, and all 64 are priced. Because the top five cards account for 38 percent of total card value, the cost of finishing the set depends on those leading rares, though the remainder is spread fairly evenly. The sealed line lists 6 products, built around booster boxes, booster packs and decks, which suits collectors who want to open product from the 1999 release.
